WASTE LANDS BOARD.

A special meeting of tho'; Waste' Lands Board was held yesterday 'afternoon, Present—The Acting-Commis-sioner, Mr J. W. A. Marchant (in the Chair(, Messrs Mason, Bunny, and W. Waring Taylor. The schedule of land sold since last meeting showed that 438 acres 1 rood 30 perches had been disposed of for £340 4s 4d.. The Chairman reported that no notice had been taken by Rasmus Rasmussen and John Hopwood of the final demand for" instalments due on their sections. It was resolved to ascertain through tlic police whether the settlers have the letters. Mr Bunny suggested to the Board the desirableness of having so much of the land surveyed between the Tauherenikau River and Reserve No. 515, to the westward of. the surveyed sections, as would form a sufficient block for the i|ext sale, It was resolved that the Chief Sui-voyor shouldbe required to have some of tho land laid off. A mcmoralidum was read from the Chief Surveyor reporting that tho Warehonga Crown Lands in Block XII,, Wairarapa Survey District, aro now ready for sale. The. Board decided to postpone the sale for the present. A letter was read from Mr Q, Kummor, complaining that his land, as granted, was not that as originally applied for. It was decided to request the'writer to retain the laud in his present grant and to assure him that he will bo protected as to tho value of improvements, on tho. adjacent lands when put up for sale. Application refused. The Chairman informed tho Board that he had received a letter stating that the bush on' the Tirauinea river was being denuded' of totara by the settlers, and that m consequence ho had requested the Crown Lands Ranger (Mr Drummohd)* to give the matter his attention. 1 The Acting-Commissioner further informed the Board that sections 4 and 6, Block IV., Makuri, had been changed by theGovernor from cash to deferred'pay; ment sections, and would bo open for application on the 21st May.next. TheBoard decided to fix the prico of the sections at £433 2s 6d and 1434 6s Gd respectively,: In reply to a request to that effect it was decided ' that no pressure should bo put upon a deferred payment settler who was at : present unable to pay his instalment. .
