The election ofaCommitteo for the ensuing year was proceeded with. At first there was a difficulty in obtaining candidates, a number of those who were proposed, including Messrs •Hall,. Grundy, Easthope, Woodroofe; Caselberg, Boddington, McGregor, and Payton, declining to stand. Eventually the following were nominated, viz. : Messrs Hogg, R. Brown, W, G, Beard, Curr, Rapp, Redman, Muir, Bacon, Maxton, Bish, Price, and Bectkam. Out of the twelvo candidates nominated, three were present and nine absent. A ballot being taken; resulted in favor of Messrs R. Brown, Hogg, Muir, Price, Redman, Bacon, Beard, Bish, and Maxton, ■ ■■' Mr Caselborg expressed his dislike to electing settlors who were not present at the meeting; and also in returning members of the old commit'teo who had been irregular, in their attendance at the past year's meetings, The Borough Council had given the ratepayers the privilege of electing a committee, but if they displayod so much apathy in availing themselves of it the Council would hayc to fall back, in the interests of the Institute, on its right to appoint a committee of management. (Hear! hear!) The Institute,if properly managed, would prove of great educational value to tho whole neighborhood. • A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings. '■'.'■■
