HOBART, February 22. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruapehu arrived here yesterday, e.i route New Zealand, and coaled.
MELBOURNE, February 22. Sir Charles Sladen, M.L.0., who has been ill for some time past, died today, aged 68. SYDNEY, February 22. New Zealand wheat has fallen to 3s 4d per bushel, and New Zealand oats to 2s 9d. Maize remains at 4s, and SugnrCompany's No, I pieces, at. per ton. ADELAILE, February 22. Wheat is quoted to-day at 3s lid to 4s, f.o.b. The market is quiet, Flour town brands, .£9 12s Cd to 19 15s; country ditto, .£8 10s to ,£8 10s to 18 12s 6d.
Under date Mauritius, February 6, Messrs Ireland, Fraser and (Jo. report of the sugar market as follows':—The market is dull and no business is being done. Winter prospects are favorable for the coining season. Freights to Australia, 20s per ton. There hnvo been no.clearances for New, Zealand since last report. Tho stock of sugar in hand is now estimated at 39,000 tons,
MELBOURNE, February 22, Messrs O. S. Ross and Co., of this city, report the sale of cargoes of kauri timber, ex sbips Vision and Grassmere, at the following average prices:—At per 100 ft (superficial) hewn logs, 12s; sawn flitches, 14s 6d; sawn boards, lin, 18s; ditto, 1J to 3in, 16s 6d. The market is dull.

Australian tallow, average quality, beef, 38s; mutton, 41s 6d. The catalogue at to-day's wool sale comprised 12,300 bales, Fair competition was experienced at firm current rates. Foreign buyers are operating more freelv.
CAIRO, . February 21. Received February 23, noon.— Telegrams have been received from Khartoum reporting that Gordon Pasha has been meeting with continued' success in his efforts to complete tho pacification of the Soudan. Arrange? ments have been made for an interview between Major-General Gordon and the Mahdi, and the former will leave Khartoum at an early date for that purpose. Despatches are to hand from Souakim announcing that Colonel Graham with the final portion of the British troops from Cairo arrived there yesterday. The expedition for'the relief ofTolcar will commence its march thither on Sunday next, 24th inst. ' LONDON, .February 21. Glm Bradlausjli has. addressed a letter to the Speaker of the House of Commons announcing that he has decided not to appear again at Westminster Palace until the law courts have decided regarding his claim to take his seat as Member for Morthanipton.
