DEVASTATING WATERSPOUT.
CiißiSTCiiuncii, February 19. . Hie Cheviot and Waipara Districts have experienced a waterspout whichwas seen to rise in the sea, travelling rapidly inland to the boatshcel where the Hon W. Robinson loads wool. A team of bullocks with a dray being driven by a boy was proceeding along the road, and just as they reached the bridge over a gully, the deluge descended, and in a few minutes the approach to the bridge was swept away and the leading bullock fell into the gully. His chain snapped, jand he disappeared under a - mass of earth which was dislodged from the banks and was carried out to sea. The slip is estimated at upwards of 2000 lons. The waterspout traversed nearly throughout the whole district, and with' terrible effects. No thunder, lightning or wind accompanied, the phenomena.
