CARTERTON RAM AND EWE FAIR.

The annual fair held under the auspices of the W.andE.O,P,andA. Society, was held yesterday on the Society's ground, Carterton. There was not half the number of visitors to the ground as at the last fair, not more than 200 being present, consequently the bidding was very slow, it requiring the wholo of tho auctioneers' persuasive powers to.extract a bid in anything like time, The number of entries fell considerably short of last year, there being about 200 sheep less in the pens. This perhaps was rather an advantage than Otherwise, as the auctioneers were able to get through their work at an early hour. Seven hundred and ten fifty ewes were catalogued. Of this.number about two thirds wero penned, The quality generally was not equal to the last fair, although among yesterday's exhibits there' were some of tho best rams the district possesses. Messrs Lowes & lorns,' of Masterton, and Air F. H, Wood, Gveytown, were the auctioneers, and occupied the attention of tho visitors for alternate periods of about half an hour each, tho former leading off about 11 o'clock.
