MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the offices, Perry-street, this morning, PresentMessrs Meredith (Chairman), Dagg, Macquarrie. The Chairman stated that a special meeting was called for to-day to strike a special rate under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, the first payment of the debentures for such work falling due on the first of next month, It was resolved that the meeting be adjourned'till the next meeting of the Board, as it was not considered jnst to make ratepayers pay twelve months before the work was done.
The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The following inward correspondence was read
From Clerk County East, notifying that a resolution had been passed by tho Council, that all County and main roads in the County be placed under the immediate supervision of the County engineer, and requesting the Board to consider the same, and to state when it will be convenient for the Board's Engineer to relinquish the work in hand on such roads.
Prom Treasury, stating that the sum of £l3ll 1b 9dhad been paid to tho credit of tho Board for work done under the Beads and Bridges Construction Act in the construction of district road 3.
From Castlepoint'Road Board, enclosing cheque of £lO for work dono. by the Masterton Board, and offering" to pay the sum ol £7O to the Board if; they undertook to keep the Blairlogie road in repair for one year.
It was resolved—That on the Castlepoint Board remitting the rum of £7O, this Board undertakes to keep tho Blairlogie road in repair until tho 16th July. From Mr W. 0. Buchanan, offering the sum of 5s per 100 for being allowed to split posts from timber lying on the Masterton-Te Whiti road line.
Prom Treasury, stating the sum of £260 Lad been paid to credit of Board for rates on Crown Lands, From Taratahi Carterton Road Board, enclosing cheque for £2O 10s, being half the amount of expenses incurred on Masterton and Gladstone road, and being as a settlement in full.
As there was no alternative, tlie amount was accepted, although tlio Board were of opinion that the Tara-tahi-Cartertonßoard should have paid two-thirds of the cost.
From same informing the Board that the necessary work on Dakin's cutting, would cost £3O, and requesting to know how much the Board would contribute towards the. work. It was resolved that the sum of £lO be paid towards the work. Mi- Dagg moved that the Clerk raako up interest of claims upon, the grants for interest upon advances made by the Board, upon, contracts under' the; Roads and Bridges Construction Actj between dates of payment by the Board and repayment by the Gov-: ernment, with a view to recoup this Board. .
After a long discission the motion was carried.
With reference to the letter from .Bast County. Council, It was resolved that the clerk write and inform them that the contract for works on the County 1 road by the Board would' be completed ,in about a fortnight when it would be a convenient time to relinquish the duties of the Board engineer: oa such; roads.
The. engineer's report was then read and adopted,; , Donovan's'ROAD. It was resolved that arrangements be made' with Mr Mackay to purchase
