SIR GEORGEGREY ON FEDERATION.
. Auckland, January 29. Sir George Grev, Messrs F. J. Moss, M.H.R,and J. bargaville,:H.H.R., addressed a public meeting in the Choral Hal last night,, under the aw pices, of the Eight Hours' Demonstration Committee. The Mayor presided, and there was a good attendance. Sir Georgs Grey referred afresh to, Federation, going over much of the previous ground he had traversed, but he complained that the Hon. F. Whitaker had told them little new. He averred that : in appointing delegates to the conference, the Governor had exceeded'his powers, and had committed a breach of duty to his sovereign and to the people of the country. The Federal Council would be supreme, and would: be superior to the local legislation. Colored labor would be introduced, to the depreciation of white labor and the wages of Europeans, and in all Federal mattters New Zealand would be out voted and overborne, Messrs Moss and Dargaville followed in the same strain, The speeches wero well received, and a vote of thanks accorded to the speakers.
