Tho principal business transacted by the Presbyterian Synod yesterday was tho discussion of a report from a committee in Union, recommending immediate steps be taken to effect a union with the northern church. After a spirited debate a motion by Professor Salmond affirming a union should be effected without delay, was carried by 30 to 24. The National Insurance Company had the entire line of £IO,OOO on the steamer; Lismoro, but she was reinsurod for £'9,500 of which the South British, United,Union, and Colonial each had £SOO.
