GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

~ &■■ : The adjourned meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Loasby, St George, Gallagher, and Bright. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence outwards was read from the letter book. Inwards—Prom Colonial Secretary's office, re election of Mayor; from Mr 'i Baillie, laying a complaint against the Ranger; from Messrs Wakeliu and ' Hawkins, asking the Council to allow them to pay their rates in instalments, and to hold over distress wa.rant; from Mr J. Hall, re payment of his rates, It was resolved, on the motion of Or.Loasby, seconded by Or St George —That the letter froln Mr Baillie be received,: and as no definite charge is . made that no action be taken in the matter, . That (on the motion of Or Loasby, seconded by Or Gallagher) the action of His Worship tho Mayor in the matter of allowing time to Messrs Wakelin and Hawkins be endorsed by the Council, and that their offer to pay £5 per month be accepted, provided their payments are made promptly, otherwise immediate action to be taken. This allowance to be made in consideration of the work done on Kcmpton's line by Messrs Wakelin and Hawkins. That (on tho motion of Or St George, seconded by Cr Bright) Mr Hall receive until the end of February to .pay his rates, The reports of the Works and Finance Committees were read and adopted, Mrs Merson's charge against the Danger was withdrawn, owiag to the fact that she was misled as to the facts of the case. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Loasby, seconded by Cr.Bright—That the Inspector of Nuisances receive definite instructions to prosecute all those who have unregistered dogs after the specified time. The Town Clerk was instructed to procure dog collars. It was resolved on the motiou of Cr Loasby, seconded by Cr St George— That those persons who have permitted dangerous holes to exist between the footway and their property or allowed gorse or other inflammable rubbish to grow on their sections or on the roads, receive written notice to have them filled up or cut down respectively to, the satisfaction of the Overseer. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Loasby, seconded by His WorshipThat the Town Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., calling his attention to the fact that upon all occasions of railway excursions, Greytown has been omitted from participating in the benefits of cheaper fares, and to request him to lay the matter before the Minister of Railways, so that in future Greytown may be included in the stations which participate in the excursion rates.
