HANDiciprßKS—Messrs F, O'Connor and Walter Rapp; The above gathering, which was postponed from New Year's Day to the 2nd inst. through the bad weather, came off yesterday. Notwithstanding the postponement a very large concourse of persons of all ages and sexe3 assembled to witness the sports. The weather was beautifully fine in tho early part of the day, but towards evening a slight shower [fellJrwßh caused a general clear out for home amongst the spectators, Tho programme, which consisted of twenty- . seven events, was systematically carried out' by tho directors in attendance to the satisfaction of all concerned, There were numerous entries and keen competition in all events except the wrestling match, which was . rather n farce, there being only three badly matched competitors in it. Mr Pearson's private brass band enlivened the proceedings with good music, and the cravings of the inner man were efficiently attended to by Messrs Bell, Wagg, and Toohill, The settling up for each event was made immediately on the report of the judges, and in this connection a word of praise must be accorded to Mr W. Sellar, tho secretary, who, with taking entries, paying prize money, answering questions, aud attending to the requirements of the judges, liandicappers, 4c. was kept constantly busy, but his good management proved quite equal to the demands made upon him. Wo think it would bo a good plan to shorten the. programme by a few items, as before twenty-seven ovents are put through people have become tired and leave the ground. The following is the prize list. Quoits; distance, 21 yards, 11 points up.—Five entries. G. W. Schrodet Ist, 11 points; Fulcher 2nd, 6 points. Maiden Race, 220 yards. -Eleven entries. Run in heats. The prize money for this event hardly seems Bit|>icnt for the amount of exertion to be put forth. ' . Standing High Jump.—Four entries. J. Jackson Ist, 4ft sfin; Waterson 2nd, 4ft |in. The winner's of former years were not to be kept out, and Jackson took his usual position. Men's Race, 440 yards, handicap.— Nine entries. A.
