Received January 3rd, 12,40 p.m.— The trial of . the Marquis De Rays on charges of fraud and decoption in connection with the New Ireland expedition cqncluded to-day, when prisoner was found guilty and sentenced to four years' imprisonment, and to pay a fine of three hundred francs. The associates of the Marquis were also found guilty, and sentenced to shorter terms of im prisonment and fined in same amount. LONDON, January 1, Received January 3, 1.10 a.m.— Arrived at Plymouth to-day—P, and 0. steamship Thames from Melbourne (November 8); and Orient steamship Ohimborazo, from Melbourne (Nov. 17). ' January 3, Great excitement prevails at Dromore, County Down, Ireland, in consequence ot the Orange and Pamellite meetings, The Orangemen, who numbered fully 20,000 men, attacked the Parnellite gathering, but the strong force of troops present prevented a serious collision of the two factions, SAN FRANCISCO, December 31. The steamship Zealander with the Homeward mails, dated Auckland, December 12, arrived here yesterday, MELBOURNE, January 2, Sailed, this afternoon—Union steamship Te Anau, for the Bluff. LONDON, January 1. •The consecration of Dr Alfred Barry to the Metropolitan See of Sydney r New South 'Wales, took place at Westminister Abbey to-day. The ceremony was very largely attended .both' by .clergy, and laity,. and all. parts of the edifice were crowded. The failure of Messrs Alexander
and llmny Brogdeu is in triliuted to the rejection of their appeal to the Government of New Zealand for liquidation of claims in connection with colonial ■ railway . contracts and to numerous'niinor failures in the iron trade. MELBOURNE, January 2, • The cricket match between the Australian team and a combined eleven of Australia was resumed here to-day, when the former continued .their, first innings, and remained in all day, scoring 619 runs with nine wickets down.
