A SUGGESTION FOR THE HAW KINS' ASSOCIATION.
To ihe Editor. Sik,—The question is at presont being asked, " Is tho Settlers' Association doing any good; or is it possible to get any good out of it f So far as it ■ has gone I am afraid evil (not good) has come out of it. I havo no wish to doubt the sincerity of tho promoters of this Association. I believo theyoarc most anxious to promote the best interests of tho North Wairarapa, but I am nol quite sure that the best means of promoting the interests of any district is by attempting to damage in the eyes of the public the very men who havo been most faithful and most energetic in promoting those interests, Is it, or is if. not the case that this Association has already caused a very largo amount of ill-feeling between the very men who ought to bo found shoulder to shoulder bringing the claims of tho Wairarapa to the front 1 1 have heard it remarked thatthe President is getting quito "flat" (I am not quite certain whether in,, mind or in body), and as I have a peculiar sympathy for Mr Hawkins'—. a sympathy which extends to the unfortunate readers of those immense columns of association proceedings—l • would suggest, for the sake of Mr Hawkins and readers, that a course of lectures bo delivered, under tho aus-... pices of tho association, somofching after the following : Lectures.
Mr R, H.—" Past Failures, My Futuro Prospects" Mr E. M.-"The Chiel Among You Takin' Notos'' Mr L-" Tho Jolly Good Follow" Mr 11. D-" Rogret for the Days of Yore" 'Jr U. P.-" The South Boa Bubble" Mr T. M. K.—" International Law; or, the Limb Lying Down in tho Lion's Mouth" MrT. W. S.-"Tto British Working ManGod's Creation" Mr H,-"The Little Gamo of Land Grab" Mr M'C,-" The Beauties of Pahiatua" I am, etc, Two And Two Make JFour, P.S.—lf the President could bo exhausted and tho comic part of tho businoss got through within time, the following might be added:— * Mr W. 0. 8.-" Practical Sheop FarmersGood Representative Men" Mr W. H. 8.-«' Tho Land Wo Worked and Prospered in' Mr D, M'G.-Sound Common Sense." T. and T. Jtf. E^
