COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Works Committeo of the Wairarapa East County Council met on Thursday, and the following tonders were dealt;; with!— Contract No. 6, Hawera road; , Accepted, Reese & Dawson, 131510s,; Declined, J. McLennan and Co., £385 ss: Eketahuua-Tenui road, No 5, Rosenthal' and Stevens, £B7lßs 6d. Tho amount-; being considerably in excess of the esti« mate, it was deoided to ro-advertise, and in the meantime the Engineer was in. struoted to enquire whother carts oan be : " procured so that work may be performed by day labor, if necessary. An applieslion from Mr Archibald McLeod for an extension of time on his bridge contract waß granted on tho understanding that if tho work is not completed at the expiry of the time applied for, the usual fines will be imposed. The clerk was alio instructed to notify Mr McLeod that hit vork at Makakahi must be proceeded with tt 'onco. Messrs Parker & Co,, contraotors, applied for leave lo transfer their To Ore Ore-Bideford road contraot No 1, to Mr Charles Clifford. The engineer was instructed to make enquiries respeoting Mr Clifford's competence, uid should these be satisfactory the Clerk was instructed to propare an agreement ra transfer. An application from Mr T. P. Lett, carrier, to be allowed to oreot a temporary wfiaro on the road from Taueru to Tenni was postponed for consideration at next meeting, The engineer was instructed to make enquiries respecting the best means of obtaining metal tor the Bideford road.
