TO THE EDITOB.
Sib,—Tho Editor of the Observer has soiled his paper with a good deal of mud, which was apparently intended for me. I should not have noticed it but for the paragraph in which he so elegantly donies the possibility of any ono "ploughing with his heifer." It may interest the Editor of the Observer to know that a gentleman named Beckett, who I believe lives at Carterton, is responsible for tho information I received as. to the source from which loafer's ideas spring. Mr Beckett is, I hear, not unknown to the Editor of the Observer, and I would suggest that he should commend to his friend's 1 notice the saying "in vino Veritas," which I.will freely translate: "when the whiskey is in the truth leaks out."
