Accounts to hand state that the battle, lasting three days, was fought between the rebels' and the whole force under the. command d General ; Hick's. The fighting was most desperate on both sides, but the Egyptian troops were outnumbered and completely annihilated by. the rebels, who gave no quarter, only one man escaping from the slaughter. MELBOURNE, November 22. ' ;At their wool sale to-day the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) catalogued 4500 bales, including 1800 bales of scoured woolh. All good wools elicited brisk competition,., last week's prices boing firmly maintained j inferior and faulty descriptions are, however, rather lower. MELBOURNE, Thursday. .' The Hon. Major Atkinson, Premier of New Zealand, had an interview yesterday with Mr Service, Premier of Victoria. In the courso of their conversation Major Atkinson said his Government was thoroughly in unison with that of Victoria on the question of the Pacific Islands annexation, LONDON, November 21. The cargo of frozen meat, consisting of 3650 carcases of sheep, per steamship Garonne from Melbourne (Oct. 6), arrived in perfect condition. It has been decided, however, by the consignees, to store the meat for the present, as the market was temporarily glutted by tho Doric's cargo from New Zealand.
