John Skiflxngton, a surface man employed in tho Dunedin railway yard, this morning, wliilo engaged in shunting, slipped and ono of tho trucks passed over his neck. EXTENSIVE FIRE AT AUOK- . LAND, Auckland, November 12, A fire broke out in A. T. Nathan's ' warehouse, Queen-street Wharf, at 9 oclock to-night, anij the damage, by. 1 fire water will, amount to several '■ thousand pounds. Ijhe upper storey, 1 with tho goods thereon, was totally ' destroyed. Tho insurances on his own ' store and stock aro as follows :-Union ' £1000; South British, £3000; Stan- 1 dard, £1000; North. British and Mer- ' cantile, £2OOO. In a division over 1 John Lamb's shop the goods were in- 1 suredfor £IOOO in the South British. 1 The fire cannot te got at in John 1 Lamb s shop, and the damage is exten- ' sive, but as Lamb is absent the insur- ' ances are not known. There was a 1 large stock of flour and biscuits, Tho 1 origin of the fire is unknown. One ! compartment of the warehouse is uninjured, '
