The lecturo given last night by Mr Ford at the Kuripuni Public Hall was very well attended. The Rev Mr Isitt occupying tho chair, Tho lecturer took his audience an imaginary voyage to the various historical islands of the Pacific, and kept them amused and entertained for about an hour. At the conclusion of the lecture a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Ford for his kind efforts. A verdict of "manslaughter" was returned yesterday by the coroner's jury, who met at Kaiwarra to inquire as to the fall of earth which caused the death of two men on the railway works,' Tho responsible foreman, Edmund O'Malloy, was taken into custody on tho coroner's warrant, and waa admitted to bail, O'Malloy is an old man, and sooined much affected with grief whilo giving evidence, Aftei\ soino hesitation he/'.admitted candidly that he had been watching the slope of earth three days in expectation of its falling, and as it did not come down, he thought it would hold up a Hi tie longer till tho loose stuff was carted from the bottom, preparatory to timbering up the Bide of tho deep cutting. The jury had no hesitation in blaming him, but they did hesitate to shape their verdict as one of manslaughter, because they thought the contractor was also to blamo, Tho Coroner pointed out their duty, and they then altered their verdict so as to directly blame tho foreman in charge, His trial for manslaughter will take place next January.—Times. Moses, Moss, & Co,, Sydney, General Agents, How beautiful are some of tho now pat terns in prints and sateens. The nature pattens are wonderfully faithful; socio of the leaves and flowers, but tor their repetition would almost.baulk perception, and, at a little dhtanco, persuado the eye that the birds, leaves, and flowers arc actually specimens, or at least were skilfully painted on the stuff by a master hand, Wo Would specially commend in this respect some elegant, richly finished bordered French sateens, now showing at Tu Aro House. The border is most artistic, consisting of birds, with outstretched wings, surrounded by a mass of lovely foliage and flowers, Another speciality is known as the " Heron" pattern cambric, a beautiful design, equally difficult to imagino or discribe. These should bo at inspected, as the quantity is limited at Te Aro House. To enumerate all tho styles in theso beautiful goods would take up too nuuh tirao and space, suffice to say that in English and French sateens, bordered prints, fruit prints, chintz prints, zephyr cloths, zephyr ginghams, chocked and plain sateens and cambrics, our season's importations are far and away the best and most varied ever xhibitod atTe Aro House,—Advt.
