MASTERTON IPAKI JOCKEY CLUB.

The adjourned meeting of the Master-ton-Opaki Jockey Club, was held on Saturday evening last. Mr, Lowes, the President in the chair.

Mr Payton said he was very willing that the resolution passed at the previous meeting on his motion be rescinded as he considered it was passed too hastily. He suggested that the name North Wairarapa Racing Club might be accepted. Mr Hogg approved of the latter name, at the same time he was very willing that the older members of the Club should determine the question, and did not seek t3 guide them.

Mr lorns asked if any advantage could be obtained by a change in the name. Mr Payton said they would have a wider field over which they might collect subscriptions. . The President understood that if the name was changed the Tenui people would support the Club. .They might, however, give offence to settlers down south.

Mr Hill thought that by spreading their wings some of the smaller race meetings might be dispensed with. If any feeling arose between them and the Wairarapa Jockey Ciub it. would emanate from the latter.

Mr lorns feared the proposed change would give offence in the Opaki quarter.

Mr Hill pointed out. that the Opaki settlers carried the resolution by acclamation at their late meeting. Mr James Macara moved that the club retain its old name. The Opaki settlers had always been warm 'supporters of the club, and it was not desirable at present to make any change. He had been a member of the club some ten or twelve years, during which period the programme had always been carried out and all payments made punctually. The Club under its old namo had nothing to lie ashamed of.

Mr Kimberley seconded the proposal of Mr Macara. Masterton was the capital of the Woirarapa, and it was a very appropriate name for n club. He did not think the club should take away part of the name of the Wairarapa Jockey Club. He also pointed out that fourteen days' notice of the special meeting should have been given.

The President, after referring to the nile, decided that the whole proceed ings were irregular, amidst laughter and some applause. The Stewards then held a meeting to finally complete the programme.
