Wellington, Wednesday. Captain Edwin has received the following telegram this morning ro tidal wave at Mongonui:—"Tho sea has been rushing in and receding with much rapidity for several hours." Arrived, at the Heads—New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Wairoa, (Holbeache) from' London, 101 days, Patea, Wednesday. The extension of the railway line from Waverley •to Manutahi was opened yesterday. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here at 1.30 this morning, TIDAL WAVE. Wellington, Wednesday. ; Captain Edwin received a telegram timed 9 a, m. from Eussell stating that a r tidal wave had been experienced there,-Also a further message from Jfongunui stating that the first rusli of water took place at 10p.m. last night, | but nothing occurred of any cod sequence until four this morning, lasting until 10 o'clock,
NATIVE BOUNCE,
New Plymouth, Wednesday.
200 natives, en route to Parihaka, passed through here to-day, About 30 of the natives who offered violence to 'Mr .Huwthouse, the surveyor, are among them, and some of the worst of the disturbers of the peaco. The natives say that onthing will stop them going to Parihaka.
