MASTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.

A social gathering of the members of the Brigade took place last evening in the, Engine-house, the purpose of tho gathering being to make a presentation to Captain Muir on the completion of his fourth year of office. At 7.30 the sat down to a spread provided for the occasion by Messrs Chamberlain .Bros.;, in their first-class style, and after tho good things had been discussed, the Secretary of (he Brigade, Mr W. M, Easthopo on behalf of the members, presented Captain Muir with a handsome cruet-stand suitably engraved. Much amusement was caused by tho humourous history of the .Brigade which was given by Mr Easthope, and the : account ako given of its early struggles and successes under Captain Muir's guidance was very interesting. After the presentation had been made and suitably acknowledged by Captain •Muir, the members indulged in harmony, «pd till a late hour song and jest, followed each other in rapid succession, aiid every one present agreed that it was the most pleasant and successful gathering of tho kind which has-taken.--place, for bono time. The whole matter was confined entirely to members of the Brigade, tho feeling among them being that whilst Captain Muir; during his long term of office had rendered services of the utmost value to the town, he had also en(leaved himself to the' Brigade, and whether his services to the townspeople are acknowledged or not, the 'member* of the Brigade would certainly show the kindliness, respect, and esteem, which one and all felt for tboir Captain. ;■■■■'
