LONDON, August 6. ,In the House of Commons to day, Mr Gladstone, in reply to a question, said that the views of the Government in connection with Egypt had not changed. The outbreak of cholera had delayed the steps proposed for the reorganisation of the country, and prevented a hope being entertained of the possibility of an early withdrawal of tlie British troopß now in occupation.
SYDNEY, August 6. - > Eocoived August 7, 1.10 a.m.—The two men, Egan and Scatilon, who stuck up and robbed Mr Topliam, the contractor for the Nepean water-works, of ,£ISOO on, the road between Camden and-Oatiipbelltown, were' brought up for trial to-day, and were found guilty of, robbery with arms, and sentenced to twelve years ,on the roads. 1 Madalisfcer's drapery store, at Oobar, has been destroyed by fire. August 5. News of a disquieting nature has been received here from tbo French' cammandant at Tamatave. The Hovas, otnboldened at the late inactivity of the French troops, are assuming a depant attitude, and bodies of wellarnied natives' are hovering in the neighborhood at Tamatave, The troops occupying the town are too weak in numerical strength to make an advance from their base of operations, and owing to, the threats of the Hovas, and ,the fear that an attack may be made by them in force, special precautions nrdlbelng taken to protect Tamatave, ond strengthen the position of the French troop 3 now occupying the town.
