Hasell and Co, report prices of grain and produce without any material alteration since last quotations. Bran, £4loa; pollard, £slos j potatoes, market overstocked, £2 to £3 per ton; onions, £l2 to £l4; carrots, £2 to £2 10s ; mangolds, £1 6s; chaff, £3 to £4 per ton; oats, 2s 3d to 2s 9d; fowls' wheat, 2s fid to 3s fid; barley, 3s; maize, 4s to 4s 6d; beans, 4s 6d per bushel; bacon and hama* guaranteed, 9d to lOd; farmers' cure, 6d to 7d; salt' butter, very little demand, 9d; fresh, Is to Is 2d; oheese, 7d to 7Jd; eggs, Is 6d to Is 9d, Fruit is in good supply—Oranges, 7s to 8s j mandarins, 9s to lis; lemons, 13b to 16s: apples, 6s to 12s per case. Poultry is in very little demand, and prices very low.
TARATAHI-OARTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD. The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday at the Institute, Curterton, Mr B. Boys (in the chair), and all members present except Messrs Buchanan and Braithwaite, whose absence was apologised for. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, A credit balance at the Bank of L 216 3s 5d reported, accounts amounting to L2O 14s directed to be .paid, .and the following resolutions passed, viz,: That a sum of L3OO be borrowed under the " Roads and Bridges Construction Act, 1882," for the formation and metalling of portions of Waterson's lino and railway road, That tenders be called for certain repairs on Udy's line as asked for by Mr Anderson, and that lie pay, as agreed, one half of the cost of the work, That tenders be called for removing 13 chains of wire fencing on Kakatau road. That a general into of in the £ on the values of the rateable properties as appearing in the rate book be now made for the year, commencing Ist April, 1883, and ending the 31st March, 1884, to be payable in one sum on the Ist August, 1883 ; and that the chairman and Mr Reynolds be appointed to sign the rate book and initial alterations. That the sum of |d in the £, as a river rate, be made on the value of the rateable property, as appearing on the rate book for that portion of the \Vaiohihe (j ßiver Board District situate within the boundaries of the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board District, for the year, commencing lso April, 1883, and ending 31st March, 1884, payable in one sum on the Ist August, 1883: the chairman and Mr Reynolds being appointed to sign the rate book, and initial alterations, That all general expenses not charged direct to the Ward accounts b«, at' the termination of the financial year, distributed over Ward accounts in proportion to general rates for the current year, That in reply to their letter, the desirability of having a railway crossing at Hodder's line be urged on the Railway Department. Pending the attendance of Mr Buchanan, an account of the Masteiton Highway Board for £41145, was adjourned for consideration until the next meeting. By-law 2, providing for trespass fees and appointment and duties of ranger was adopted, The meeting terminated at 1.30 p.ra.
