Gisborne, Thursday, Matthew Price, late K.M. at Gisborne, died this morning, aged 66 years.
PRIESTLY IN TROUBLE.
Auckland, Thursday.
Priestly, who was tried with Mrs Hamilton for the murder of the latter's husband, and, acquitted, attempted the first of a series of lectures throughout the colony, under the auspices of an American agent, in the One•hunga Town Hall last night. A mob surrounded the hotel where Priestly was stopping and pelted him with rotten eggs from the hotel to the hall, knocking off his hat and bespattering him plentifully. The hall was then besieged and assailed with showers of eggs. Priestly was afraid to leave the building, virion was surrounded by the mob, who vowed their determination to give him a warm reception. The light was turned out, and Priestly remained imprisoned there till half past eleven at night when tho mob dispersed and he effected his escape safely.
