. . Napier, Tuesday. Joseph Healy, a well-known drover, lost his life under peculiar circumstances on Sunday last. Tbe deceased and two others were engaged in crossing a mob of sheep over the Waipawa River. It was a bitterly cold day, and a high . wind was/ blowing, and the slieep were .exceedingly troublesome, many of tbem having to be ; carried. The men were working from 5.30 a.m, to 3.30 p.m. before tho last of the sheep were got, overt. •: The /deceased then ' fell exhausted into the river. The l circulating system of the lower half of the body was quite congested; <? He] wa's carried to the hotel in Waipawa,. medical assistance being Instantly; obtained, but with no avail.
