Sir,—Conscious of having made a false step at the late general committee meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Aemnltural Society, Mr R. ft. I uio'd the word advisedly, The meeting held when Mr Armstrong forgot himself, and tho voto was taken, was one undoubtedly to consider the interests of the Pastoral Sooioty, not that of the Jockey Club, and so Mr Armsrong admitted when ha stated in reply to the President that he was present as a member of tho general committee, not as aaoretary of the Jockey Club. What then was the result of the vote—that one of his o-vn stewards voted against him, and not an officer outside the Olub except one , member, voted for , ,the resolution ho supported, I say, therefore, that I advisedly used tho word " overwhelming," as where antagonistic feelings did not prompt a vote, ;the'- vote was dead—almost universal—against the show being 'held on the Bth November., As. regards the last paragraph of'his'letlsr I can only BJBure Mr Armstrong of, this, that all who know him best will feel bssured he would not have caviled at a' word if them had been any tangible inaccuracy in my roport of the meeting ho could have'laid'hold of.
