UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. Gisborne, Thursday. At the Supreme Court, ft' native named Whatihite, pleaded guilty to a charge of sotting fire to his whare, and was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. The murder case is still proceeding, Wellinpton, Thursday. A young man named Hewlings, said to be respectably connected in Christchurch, was to-day committed for trial on a charge of entering the Princess Hotel, and stealing a suit of clothes belonging to a lodger. ~„.. Gisborne, Friday. The Supreme Court sat till nearly ten last night hearing the charge against; Maera Te Whora for murder of a native chief on the : East Coast. A verdict of manslaughter was returned by the jury, after deliberating half ah hour. The sentence was-deferred till this morning, when his Honor passed a sentence of penal servitude for life. This concluded the criminal bußi ness.
