An apology for non-attendance was received for Mr McOardlo,' who wastoo unwell to be present. '* .' The Clerk reported that lie. had let ike old school room at seven and sixpence per week as a dancing academy. : ' Messrs Payton .ana ' Udddirigtuu, on behalf of the Masterton Park Trust, were in fttlendmcfl with resi ect to the application for a grant of £2OO made to the previous meeting, ' 1 The Chairman thought they wore not in a position at present to grant any assistauceito the Trust, Until they received money from the Court house site they were virtually, in debt. When they were in funds they would be prepared to favorably entertain, the proposal. MrPaytoii pointed out that if advantage was not; taken of the present season another year would have to lapse before the Park Oval could bo improved. ; Mr Hare said if the Bill they proposal to bring boforo the Legislature was opposid they would have no funds, If they wero sure of it not being opposed they could entertain the proposal. They might go as far as to promise LOO if there was a possibility of it being supplemented, The Chairman said be would move that LSO be paid as soon as the money from the sale of the Court house or from Greytown was received.; Mr Perry pointed out that £2OO was asked for, and 150 would bo only thrown away. Mr Hare would second the motion of tho Chairman if there was any prospect of the work being carried out. The Clerk—ls the .grant contingent on the sale of both Cout tliouse and Grey town Belt? The Chairman—On whichever money comes in first. .' Mr Bish would like a guarantee that the IBP would bo spent on tho oval. Mr Pay ton feared that £SO would not be i.f much ns-.;n ; !f lie Trustees would extend the gram to £ls, the Park Trustees might make an effort to collect another £75 by subscriptions, and thus be able to'complete the oval in a manner that would he satisfactory to the public and creditable lo tho town. Mr Boddington said lie would rathoi the matter be postponed than receivo» vote of £SO only, Tho Engineer's plan showed that the levelling -of the oval alone would cost 1100, and this would only be a portion of tho work to be com pleted. He had understood that £2O( had been subscribed towards the lat( Town Hall, and tlmt some of the sub scribers were desirous thai this amouul should bo expended in improving the Park, A small amount epent then would bo mouoy wasted. A sufficient sum would do tho work for all time. Mr Perry thought the reference to th( Town Hall subscriptions was out of place Mr Hare—The Hall was notbuilc as i Town Hall, hut as an Institute. Whet the present Institute was erected tin Trust by aiding it, virtually expended tin special subscriptions it bad received. The Chairman considered that thi original subscribers had no claim'on tin Trust. Mr Gapper moved as an amondmen that on the Park Trustees depositinj with the Clerk of the Town Trustees sum up to Beventy-five pounds they sliouli , supplement it by a pound for poum grant, Mr Hare said he would have no hesita tiou in decondiiig the motion, Mr Gapper Baid he failed to see th necessity iif a drive round tho propose , oval. His own opinion of the Park was ! that it should be put up to public audio , and sold, Unless the shingle there wa taken away' and good mould put in il | place, ho would not see trees fifty fet . hijili there if he lived to the ago t Methuselah. They would be wanting marble arch to make a Rotten Bow of i
next. The amendment was then put and carried, An,application wns received from Mr Chardon, fur repairs to the old school house ot which he is the tenant.
