April B.' . An attempt was made to float the Austral at Fitzroy Dock at spring tide this morning but without success owing to the insufficient depth of water. It is'probable that the vessel will proceed direct to London about the end of May.

Ross and Co., of this city, report the sale of a cargo of kauri pine, ex Jules Mary, at the following average prices:—At per 100 ft superhewn logs, 12s Bdj sawn flitches, 14s 3d. Some of the workmen at the Prospect Waterworks have struck, owing to a reduction in their wages, MELBOURNE, Monday. Arrived, Saturday from Plymouth (Feburary 27.) The date for the Intercolonial Postal Conference has not yet been fixed. It has transpired that the Secretary of State for the Colonies has offered in the event of the Colonies joining' the Postal Union to continue free conveyance of Australian mails between Colombo and London and vice versa.
