Sir,—Allow me through the medium of your paper to,offer oil behalf of my wife arid self onr very sincere thanks to the gentlemen,-who, at great personal risk, assisted 'in- saving oiir: children from the file on Saturday last, and also to the many 'kind Mends who have volunteered their practical sympathy under our trying circumstances, I may state that the fact of the furniture and effects .being uninsured, and of our collection of various articles for the last fifteen years ought to be sufficient to stop, the tongues of those imcharitable:individuals who are ever ready to put the worst construction :on; matters of this kind.
