He will remainin the district till near the end of the month, and expects to have a confer-, ence with the Premier before returning South. Mr Whitaker will be in Auckland in a fortnight. Mr Bryce contemplates returning to Wellington by the West Coast, going to Alexandria, through Mokau, and thence to New Plymouth. Ho hopes before meeting Parliament to have preliminary explorations made of the three proposed routes of the main trunk railway, The explorations are intended to be of such a nature as will satisfy Parliament as to the practicability of any of the routes. A trig survey of a large block of the King country has been started, and no serious obstruction is anticipated to either the exploration or the survey,

THE' INANGAHUA SEAT. Wellington, this day. Mr Edward Shaw, of the fivm of Brandon, Shaw, and Brandon, formerly warden at Reeftou, and afterwards District Judge here has accepted a requisition from Inangahua to contest that seat in the House. Mr Richard Reeves has retired in his favor.

0 Amaru, Tuesday. At the inquest held at Duntvooii last night on the body of George Quayl, found yesterday in the water-race, Dr DeLatou'r, who had made a post mortem examination, stated that he had not found any marks of violence on the body. The jury returned a verdict of" found drowned,"
