'" Mr McCardle said he had rather- hung - fire in taking up a ques'ion on which ho had pledged himself, but then at .tho first meeting of the Trust Mr Gapper brought' it forward thouuh nothing had been subsequently done in the matter, The question was making alterations in ' the conditions; under which their lands - wore now leased,, and gi»ing (he lessee / compensation for any improvements ho might effect. He thought a leaseholder would give a higher rent for a.property, if his improvements weie securod te him. Ho suggested that when any . lease ex-.,, pired, ihe impruremeuta made by the.i tenant should bo valued, and if a new' ' leaseholder look over tho pvopeity, he would have to pay the amount of the valuation... Of course the Trust by such an arrangement would Jose the buildings on its land, but it would bo recouped by the extra rent it would; receive. He was; also prepared to advocate theexteiißion...' of this privilege of compensation to exist- ' iug leaseholdets, provided that -thay agreed to pay a corresponding advance of rent.
