THE NEW VOLUNTEER REGULATIONS.

The following is a copy of the circular issued from the Defence Department to the officers commanding Volunteer forces throughout the colony. The regulations, as proposed, will, when adopted by the Defence Minister, be gazetted, and come in force on the date named, It will be observed that the new regulations embody the chief suggestions made by the recent Commission appointed to enquire aid report upon the volunteer system (if the colony Sir,—l am directed by (lie lion, the Defence Minister to inform you that certain ohangea in the constitution and organisation of the volunteer force will take place fronj the Jet January, 1893, and in order to savo timo and give every opportunity for members of volunteer corps to discusi and consider the now regulations under which they will have to serve, the principal points will be briefly detailed.

For country corps, members to qualify for capitation will have to attend one inspection of arms, accoutrements, &c., in each quarter, and undergo not less than one hour's drill, and also fire, in the Ist and !?nd periods of target-practice, and go through the |st and §nd periods of judging-distance practice, 6. No parade, dull, or inspection to reckon towards capitation in either garrison or oountry corps if less than the minimum strength of the corps is present.

7. The maximum and minimum strength of corps of all arms to be as follows Garrison, corps—maximum GB, minimum 43; Country corps—maximum 50, minimum SO. 8.
