MASTERTON-OPAKI JOCKEY CLUB.
A wELVAnENDED. meetihf! of the olab was held; at the Club Hotel last Misß. Fitton occupying the ehair. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the secretary stated that Mr Welch had agreed to place the Opaki course at the disposal of the olub; also that ten members' subscriptions were still unpaid. A copy of a resolution passed at a recent public meeting bearing upon tho management of the olub waß produeed. It. was decided that as the resolution was unaccompanied by any explanation no notice should bo taken of it, "With reference to the liabilities.of the olab Mr lorns said that when he was appointed secretary it was upon the understanding that the members were to canvas, &o. This had nnt been done, and together with the fact that the prize money paid at the last meeting amounted to consider* ably more than the receipts for priviliges had been the principal cause of the nonsuccess of the club.
Mr Elkina thought it would be inadvisable to draw out a programme, or to fix a date for the next meeting until they saw what assistance they could obtain. No doubt the gentlemen who attended the meeting on Saturday night would assist them. He would propose—" That three or four members be requested to canvass the town'and district for promises of subscriptions, and that a meeting of the club be held on Saturday evening next to elect officers, and decide date of meeting &o," Mr Jas. Macara seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. It was also resolved that Messrs Elkins, lorns, Macara, and Fitton be appointed to canvass for subscriptions. Tho meeting then adjourned till Saturday ovening next. ,
