PROPOSED SUBMARINE TUNNEL.
The promoters of the Channel Tunnel, baulked for tbe present, are not going to be done altogether out of the proseou- ■ tion of thjir'pei fancy. A London newspaper asserts that ''SirK'W, W&tkin and M. De Lesseps have had a conversation together on the practicability of constructing a submarine tunnel to connect Scotland with Ireland. The points of oonneotion at present undar consideration are Portpatrick in Scotland, andDonaghadee iirlraknd. The «uf!gMed tunnel would be only 1} miles long, or about half the length of the Channel Tunnel, Nothing definite bap yet been decided as to how the scheme can be carried out, but it is in good bands and something more may be heard of it in the course of a few weeks,
