THE SYDNEY ROWING MATCH. (Heuter's Telegrams.) (Received October 4j 0.50 a.m.) • Sydney, October 3. The first three heats for the rowing trophies offered by Mr Frank Punoh were rowed today on the Paramatta River, and were won by Laycock,' Trickett, and Rush respectively. The contest will be continued on the 6th and 7th instants, (Received October 4,1.10 p.m.) Melbourne, this day. A destructive fire occurred last night at Richmond in the premises occupied by Nation and Co., builders. The damage is estimated at £3OOO, which is covered by insurance. Alexandria, October 2.

The Government has declined to rant Dr Barker and Enquiry into Iho charges made against him in connection with the late Mrs Stent, as it, is considered to be unnecessary. Dr Barker will therefore not resign his position on the Victorian Medical Board as was required by the Government. St. Petersburg, October 2. At the instance of the Czar a communication has been addressed to Provincial Mnyors, enjoining them to use drastric measures for the repression of anti-Jewish outbreaks.
