A LOCAL GENIUS.
Our (Ct»go Daily Times) Wakatipu correspondent states that a young man about 20 years of ago, living near Kawarau Bridge, baa developed a talent for the construction of Bteamboats, stationary steam-engines, and working locomotives, that is little short of the marvellous. On a dim of water he works his steamboats with preoieion and efficiency, while in hit hat engines and locomotives of different constructions pei< form their work with perfection, The young man, whose name is Bobert Thomp. son, is now engaged on a circular railway to test the prs,otioability of his locomotives. Mr Thompson (adds our correspondent) it of a quiet and retiring disposition, but it is possible that if. any gentleman of any of your Dnnedin firiuß made an offer of taking Mr Thompson fa training, he might be induced to turn his whole attention and abilities to a subject which has done 10 much for humanity's progress, Mr Thompson's accomplishments unmistakeibly in* dicate genius of a very high order.
