'The ordinary monthly • meeting of the Institute Committee was held last even- : ing. : Present:—Messrsßish(Chairman), McGregor, Sellar, Boddington, Hogg, Payton, Grundy, and Beetham. 1 The minutes of the previous meeting were, read and confirmed.. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £2218s 2d, » sum of £26 IBs 10d, having been received for rates, •■ w " i ' < : The following accounts were passed for payment. ' Lyttelton Times Company, 15s; New Zealand Times, 15s; Wairarapa, Daily offioe, £2 6s6d. A suggestion was received from a,visitor calling attention to undesirable publications' being left on the readinp-room table. . ■ •.. Mr Payton moved that the house, com. mitiee instruct the custodian not to plaoe on the table any publication which, Sis* cussed roligious questions, .. : ,'.;•'! ' Mr.Oarr seconded the motion. -..-. ' Mr McGregor recommended that the resolution should take the direction oF excluding all publications whioh were not :direbjtly authorised by the Committee.^''"' : Mr' ; Hogg supported the resolution.. If thereading room was to be oondueled 'on a secular basis both freethought and religious publications must be excluded;;:: f ■'; Mr MoGregor's suggestion was embodied in the resolution whioh was carried unanimously.
