MASTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was hold on Saturday last, Present-Messrs Buchanan (Chairman), Dagg, Chamberlain, and Yallance, , Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was also read ;-Copy of letter from Messrs Travers and Cave to Mr Hart claiming damages for taking metal from a pit on land belonging to Mr Band, on tho Taucru road; Chairman to Mr Band to arrange the matter on behalf of Mr Hart; letter from Mr M. Smith, calling attention to the state ot road at Gladstone, and requesting that a few culverts might bo put in; that Mr Smith be informed that the repairs would be commenced immediately. Letter From Mr Geo. Moore re payment for culverts put in on road leading to his place in No. fi Ward. That the Chairman arrango with Mr Moore as to payment. One from Mr Marsh, Alfrcdton, complaining that Mr' Alpass had closed a track passing through his property, which' had been used by travellers since the district was settled. That Mr March bo authorized to re-erect the fence across the public road where recently pulled down by Mr Alpass, and to maintain same until further notice, provided he gives the public liberty to pass through his land, and affixes a notice on his fence to that effect. That a letter be written to Mr Alpass containing the purport ot above, and calling his attention his liability to damajres as shewn Morrison's case. From Mr Tuck, stating that he would, as requested, enlarge the gates on road leading through Brandon's clearing. From Ea?t County Council, re the expenditure of £7O. The Engineer's report was passed as read. Mr Chamberlain appeared on behalf of Mr Tankersley to have a piece of bush fallen on road leading to his property. The Engineer to attend to the maHer. That the Clerk write to the Peathevston Boird and remind them that it is time now to connect roads in their district with the line recently laid off by this Board's Engineer. That the services of the Overseer of Works be retained, provided lie agrees to accept a certain sum daily, and on the understanding that he will bo allowed, a higher sum while engaged in inspecting works, »That the metalling of the Taueni-idbe not proceed with until the.Spring.
