He was speedily rescued and brought before a Magistrate, who remanded him until Friday. A young lady is the cause of the attempt. EDUCATION BOARD. At the Education Board to-day .the applications of Parkvale and Olareville schools for a sum of money for repairs and additions was refused in consequence cf the Board having no funds', Applications from Tenui and Parkvale asking that school children be allowed to do away with Christmas vacation and have holidays in midwinter as it was more suitable in winter, was referred to committees, It was decided to proceed at once with the erection of sheds for Masterton school. The conveyance of the old ■ school site was sealed to-day,' and J34 voted fm repairs and additions to Femside School. The Board requested Mr Buchanan to inspect the site offered for a school building at Waihakeke, and £l4 was voted for. repairs to residence at Kaitara. An application from Greytown School for repairs was referred back for further particulars. Tho ■ proposal to establish a girls' high school here was dis cussed by the Board, and a committee was appointed to obtain full particulars.

THE LATE RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

Oamaeu, May 30. Neil McFee, fireman, hurt at the railway accident near Karligi on the night of the 23rd, died in tho hospital last night, after suffering fearful agonies. At the coroner's inquest yesterday, Kitto was committed for trial for the murder of Roggiero, He was discharged from the Luuatic Asylum • in October, 1878, and has since resiled with his family at Miller's Flat. He has not shown signs of insanity since his discharge,
