THE IMPERIUM IN IMPERIO. Alexandra, this day. In response to a messago from Tawhiao all tlie Europeans hero assembled at Whativvhatihoo this morning. Weather was magnificent, waiting some time they sent in a messenger asking when the kbrero would begin. Te Ngakau came out and said, " I ; have come out to announce, just as' Native Land Court does, to all assembled here that the Court is opened, but will be adjourned till tomorrow in accordance with all your European usages." On expressing disgust with this proceeding and asking tlie reason, it was alleged that some of the Ngatimaniapotos have not arrived, but it is believed chiefs are anything but agreed yet as to what lines should be taken. Wahorui strongly opposes all land selling, anil it is understood that Rewi had been asked personally to modify his recent uttor ances about submitting titles to the dociaion of Courts. Walianui said he would like title ascertained, but always in past surveys have been followed by sales of land. It be could see some way ol securing land he would not be so strongly opposed to its opening, but they have so often been deceived by Natives selling when Crown grants were obtained that ho is tearful of taking any steps towards making Native title negotiable.
