CORRESPONDENCE

THE LATE OUTRAGE AT GREYTOWN. To THE EniTOE. Sir,—l notico in your issue of Thursday there are two locals relating to the man Ellis. In the first one your informant is Mr Jackson, who says that three years ago this man was working for him at Marton, where his family lvside, and that Mr Jackson had never seen him since till he passed through Carterton ut few days ago. in the next local someone informs you on good authority that he • was born at Karori, and that five years ago was living at Waihakeke, and then shifted to Marton. My reason for writing this is to let you know that it could not be one of the family'who lived at Waihakeke as they left there five years ago, and have been living atKai Iwi, whioh is nine miles north of Wauganui, ever since, _ Mr Ellis, my brother-in-law, certainly lived at Karori, and has a son, by name, William, but he has never left his father. The last letter I had from my sister was dated Sept, 1881, when ho was at hume, I was on a visit there in Jan., 1881, and he was then at home, which proves at once that he could not have been the same man Mr Jaoksou had working for him, as by the local Mr Jackson says he bsw him pass through Carterton. And again, my ' brother-in-law is not sandy at all, but has dark briwn hair. I notice further on that Constable Bruuskil) asserts that he has had his eye on Ellis for the past foiu years as a dangerous character, which, put by the side of what I write, that he has never left his father, proves most conclusively that it cannot be my brother-in-law, I trust.you will in your next issue insert something to contradict those statements in yesterday's paper, lam, &c„ GB. Wellington, 22nd April.
