Northumberland have been sentenced to seven and five years' imprisonment respectively for attempting to drown a midshipman on board that vessel in the neighborhood of Cagliari. A conspiracy has been discovered at San Francisco, by which certain Custom House officials in that city attempted ,to defraud the Government by opium smuggling. London, March 28. . The Chief Executive of the Nihilist Committee has been arrested at St. Petersburg. A Fenian has been shot at Dublin. His companions were'arrested and were found in possession of a great quantity of stores and ammunition as well as important documents. London, April 3. Telegrams are to hand reporting that the steamers Yrurac Bat, 1558 tons, of Bilbao and the Douro came into collision off the west coast of Spain, Bn th'o neighborhood of Capo Finisterre. Both vessels foundered, 35 of the passengers and crew of the Douro were saved, and 67. of of those on board the Yrurao Bat.
Information has been received to-day from Ireland to the fact that a Westmeath landlord, named Smythe, fired at and killed Mistress Smythe, a relative. The sculling match between Hanlan and Boyd, for £IOOO, was rowed on the Tyne to-day, and resulted iu a victory for the Canadian by four lengths, The contest is eescribed as having been a eollow race, Hanlan winning without difficulty, Further telegrams are to hand regarding the collision of the steamships Doure and Yrurac Bat off the Spanish coast, It is now stated that 120 lives were saved from the Douro alone, but that the captain and officers perished, Both vessel hati it f large number of passengers on board, but tho total loss of life has not yot been ascertained. . The {charges of defrauding a moneylenders which wero preferred against the Marquis of Huntly, for whose apprehension a warrant was issued in January last, havo been withdrawn.
