MASTERTON RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.

Between twenty ami thirty members of tho above covp assembled at the drill shed last evening, Lieutenant Wyllio being in command. The company was put through the various oxercises by Drill Instructor Bezar, and about half-past eiijht they were dismissed and adjourned to host Oovbett's commercial room, where n meeting was held, Lieut. Wyllie in the chair, Accounts amounting to £22 Is 9d were received, some of which wers passed for payment, and others held over. Sergts. J. Williams, C, Wilton, D. Dixon, and Privates W. McKenzio and 0. J, Freeth, with the commissioned officers, were appointed a finance committee for the onsuing year. Corporal Dalrymple was unanimously re-elected secretary, and Mr Bisli (honorary member) was elected Treasurer. A letter was read from Captain Tully, of the Greytown corp, stating that ho had received a notification from headquarters that no general encampment would be held in Wellington this year. The Greytown Volunteers proposed to hold a review in that town on Eastor Monday, and invited tho Masterton corp to take part in it. Captain Tully also thought the Wellington corn would take part in it. He pointed out that reviews had been held in Masterton and Carterton, and it wan now their turn to have one in Greytown.

It was unanimously agreed to take part in the review at Grejtown. Sergt.-Major Bezar intimated that the final competition for Colonel Pearce's prizes would take place on Monday, 27th March, at 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. ■ Sergeant Williams had croat pieasurain moving that Lieutenrnt Wyllie bo asked to come forward as their captain, (Applause.) He had already done everything in his power to promote the interests of the Corps, and had shown shown himself to be a good and impartial officer. Sergeant Williams referred at some length to the very favorable manner in which Lieutenant Wyllie had been spoken of by those members of the Corps who went to Parihaka, stating that Leiut, Wyllie had been most diligent in looking after the comfort and welfare of those under him. ■He (Sergeant Williams) believed tho whole Company; would agree with him that Lieutenant Wyllie would make them a good captain. (Applause,) Corporal Dalrymplo seconded, fully endorsing all that Sergeant Williams had said, Lioutenant Wyllie said it gave him great pleasure to hear such sentiments expressed, but he was about to rotjrefrom the Corps altogether as he would not be long in the district. Ho had already sent his resignation to headquarters. He was pleased to havo roceived the offer, as it •showed that anything ho had dona for the. welfare of the Corps had liot been lost on it. He woild advise them not to be in a hurry in the selection of their captain and lieutonant, but to take overy precaution to secure good mon, It wa3 a very easy matter to get a captain but it was very difficult to get rid of him. He sincerely hoped they would get a gentleman who would tako a working interest in the Corps and who would not accept the office for the mere honor of the thing. Sergt. Dixon could not help expressing his great regret at hearing of Lieut. Wyllie's resignation, as he had always been ready and willing to further tho intereits of the corp. The meeting then adjourned to next inspeotion night.
