I do not know whether the minute book contains any record of Mr Renall attending a meeting, I heard casually that Mr Renall; had called in one evening, but I was not, present on, that occasion. A ten pound cheque was enclosed in an envelope The cheque was in my handwriting. Witness after; I believo tho accounts were submitted to a meeting, I beleive several of us met together'but there was ■ no formal meeting. Payton & Co. and Smith 4 Hogg etc,, ( were laid before the Committee, I southern on to Mr Renall with a request for payment of them. I forwarded all the accounts to him together, and requested him to pay them Mr Smith and I went up with reference to the accounts on one oooasion but could not find Mini :• I asked ;Mr,Renall on pne.occasian for the money and he.threw the accounts on one side and said he. would have nothing to;do with them. .On the night advertised • for thp settling up meeting two or three of us. opened the accounts. I drew up a list of the accounts showing the balance required to discharge the j liabilities, This statement ipcluded the accounts of Payton & Co., and Smith & Hogg. I never saw the defendant present at a Committee fleeting.. I requested Mr Renall on one 'occasion to mix up more with the' Committee and the electors generally. \ [Left Sitting.] -'
