[united press association,] • y A GOLD':FLUTTER. Hokitika, this day. Gold was struck "yesterday by Heron and party on a flat above Woodstock, on the south side of the Hokitika river, after sinking 50 feet, The depth of the waßh is from three to four feet, and is estimated to yield, five pennyweights to the load. Several shafts are going down, and a good many claims are pegged out on the flat, though immediately in the vicinity of the terrace workings dose to the river have been untried, and are of considerable extent. It is believed that a new lead has been found. There was Borne excitement in town to-day on the news being received.
