DISCOVERY OF A SKELETON NEAR HOKITIKI.
SUSPECTED FOUL PLAY.
(OMTBD PRESS. ASSOCIATION,) ' Hokitika, Feb, 13,' On Thursday last it was reported to tho Qoldsboro Police, by a miner named Joseph Groaaie, that, while working with his three mates, they found the skeleton of a man at the bottom of a shaft fifteen feet deep, and until recently full of water. The shaft is situated at Fox's, about eight miles from Hokitiki. •
From inquiries made by the police it is believed the remains are those ot a miner named Dominico Borserini whose hut was situated about thirty yards from the shaft where the bones were discovered. Mr Muller, store-keeper at Fox's states that on September 18th, 1877, Borserini paid him some money. On the evening of that day Boraerini's hut together with all its content was destroyed by fire, and since the date just mentioned the man dissappeared. Sir Muller states he held a mortgage over Boraerini's claim for £IOO and he imagined that Borserini bad gone away to escape payment of the money he owed. The shin bones were in a pair of knee boots, which have been indemnified as his make by a bootmaker named Michael Filzgibbon, living at Goldshoro. The remains have been removed to the Helvetia Hotel, Goldshoro, where an inheld; The .police are now engagedatipr'osediiting further inquiries.
