MASTERTON DEBATING SOCIETY.
A meeting of the above was held at the Institute last evening, when ten members were present. The President .(Mr Grundy) occupied the ;chair.; The.?] minutes of the previous .meeting ihaving U been rend and confirmed, the'following notice of motion was handed in.—Mr Redman-!'That a proportion of the revenue of the Society be set aside to form the nucleus of a prize fund for the best debatable essay. To come on at next meeting.'' The business of the evening (the revision of the rulos) was then brought on, the President expressing Wet that Mr Do Castro, who had proposed amendments, i was not preaent. Among other alterations a rule was passed making the first Friday in each month an open meeting, at which members might introduce friends of either sex. The conduct of the business ,'wis! altered to the following:—l. Beading 'of minutes. 2. Discussion of motions of which notice had been given. 3. General business. 4. Subject of the : evening. \fi. The time of rueoting was fixed for every Friday evening at 8 o'clock, adjourn- ' ing at 9.50.
