SHOCKING DEATH.

MAN BURNT ALIVE!

News was brought tn Masterton this afternniin, by Mr Laurent, that a man named Fl n the employ of Mr John Perry, Upper Taueru had been burned to death irhile endued in burning off scru b, The particulars, as far as can be learned at present, are as follow: Deceased wrb out yesterday with Mr Perry and Mr ListerKaye, burning scrub. Ho went ahead, fil'iny as he travelled, while Messrs Perry and Lister-Kaye followed slowly in the rear, to, protect fences from the flames, When they left off in the evening, Mr Perry coneyed for Finn, but receiving no answer, concluded he had gone home, When they arrived there, however, he had not been seen. As he had not made his appearance at 9 o'clock, Mr Perry went out and cooeyed again. No answer being heard he then thought Finn must have gone to the tent of another man, not far from whore he had been working, and no anxiety was felt till this morning, when it having been found that Finn had not been Been by anyone on the place, a search was made which resulted in his charred body beiug found in a gully. He bad evidently not noticed the direction in which the fire he was engaged in making was spreading, and on reaching the gully was enclosed on all sides with suioke and flames, and perished. Mr Perry immediately sent for the police, and mounted constable Fleraming has proceeded to the scene to take charge of the body, and gam particulars. An inquest will probably be held in Masterton.
