WAIRARAPA JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting! of the members of the Walrarapa Jockey Club was held last evening at the Club Hotel. The date of the autumn meeting was finally fixed for Thursday and Friday, 23rd and 24th February. Eighteen members were elected and Messrs J. C, Vallanea and B. E. Armstrong were appointed handicappers. The secretary was instructed to advertise the Champagne Stakes for 1882 of L9o,2nd horse LlO, and 3rd horse L 5 out of the stakes, entrance 3 sovs, 1 sov on nomination, 1 sov night of general entry, and 1 sov before noon on day of race; also, the District Produce for 1885 of L 125, 2nd horse Lls, and 3rd horse LlO out of the stakes, entrance 4sovs, 1 sov nomination, 2 sovs night of general entry, and 1 sov before noon on day of race, Nominations for the above to be made in writing to the secretary on or before Saturday, 25th March, 1882,
The Club' should obtain large entries for their autumn meeting, as the programme is a most liberal one. No other Club in the Colony offers such inducements to horse owners in the way of low entrance fees. No qualification fees'are imposed, and the prizes offered are the net value, no deductions being made on any account whatever. Other OMb might take pattern from our local body, as it is no uncommon thing to see a race advertised for say LSOO, with the idea of making a programme look large, and after the winner has paid entrances, allowances to other horses, qualification fees, and finally had so much per cent, deducted by the Club, he finds that his LSOO prize is reduced considerably below L4OO.
