CASTLEPOINT HIGHWAY BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board waa hold at Tmui on Saturday last, Present-Messrs Machy (Chairman), Langdon, Smyth, and Miller. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a balance available for future expenditure of £BBS.

CORRESPONDENCE, Inwards— Prom the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, stating that the election of W A. Burling for No, 7 Ward was gazetted from Maws Elder & Co., applying for permission to keep a gate on the Mun°apakeha road; from Mr Murray, ro Ferry charges at Ohonga; from Messrs Payton « U., with account.

' That in reply to Mr Elder's request re ereotion of gate, he be informed that the Board oannot grant him permission to erect a gate on the main road. That the sum of Ml he expended on the formation of about 25 chains of sidecutting on the Mataikuna-Pakowai line, fixing culverts, and repairs near to Matai. kuna. . ... ...

Resolved—That in reference to the e: penditure of £1,500, to be raised by de bentures/for metalling the Mung&pakehi road, this Board would.indioate to thJ Couilty Council the most desirable placea on the line which, in their opinion, should! be metalled, viz, :-From the Rorokoko bridge to the natural gravel on the outtino leading into Mr Vallance's terrace; and" again, from the Blairlogie road junction] towards Tmm, as far as funds will allow. The Clerk was directed to enquire from' the Hon. the Colonial Secretary what steps have been taken in the matter of the petition from the Upper Taueru settlers. Mr J. A. Perry was the only tenderer tor keeping the main road in repair, and his tender was declined, the time for accepting fresh tenders being extended until next meeting.
